Boyd Company Announces Leadership Transition as Family-Owned Business Looks to the Future

Caterpillar inks contract with Andrew Boyd as new Dealer Principal for Boyd Company, while Monty Boyd moves to Chairman role.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 13, 2025) —Boyd Company is excited to announce a leadership transition that marks the next step in a proud, multi-generational family legacy. On May 1, Monty Boyd and Andrew Boyd met with Caterpillar leadership at Caterpillar corporate offices in Dallas, Texas, to officially transition the role of Dealer Principal for Boyd Company from Monty to Andrew. With this transition, Monty – who has served as CEO and Chairman for Boyd Company since 2005 – will continue in his role as Chairman and Andrew, his son – who has been serving as President – has been promoted to CEO / President.

The transition marks the next chapter for the company, which traces its roots back to being one of the oldest Caterpillar dealerships in the nation — as a result of combining Whayne Supply, founded in 1913, and Walker Machinery, founded in 1950. Since acquiring Whayne Supply in 2008 and Walker Machinery in 2010, the Boyd family has guided the company’s growth and evolution, including the 2020 merger of both legacy dealerships into the Boyd Company.

Monty began his career with Caterpillar in 1975 and later joined Whayne Supply, where he rose through the ranks in sales, marketing and operations. He was named CEO / President in 2005 and led the acquisitions that shaped Boyd Company into a regional industry leader.

“It has been my distinct privilege to serve our customers and team members for nearly five decades,” Monty said. “Watching Andrew grow into a thoughtful, strategic and people-first leader has been incredibly rewarding. I am proud of all he has accomplished and have full confidence in his ability to lead Boyd Company into the future. Together with our exceptional team, he will continue to build on our strong foundation.”

Andrew joined Whayne Supply in 2007 and has held a variety of leadership roles across product support, rental and sales. After completing Caterpillar’s sales & marketing training program, he returned to Boyd and advanced quickly through operational roles. He became President in 2021 and now steps into the role of CEO with responsibility for all areas of the business.

“This company means a great deal to my family and me,” Andrew said. “We’re proud of our legacy, but even more excited about our future. Boyd Company’s strength comes from the people who work here and the customers we serve every day. I’m honored and excited to lead our team alongside my sisters, Aimee Johnson, Vice President Strategic Services, and Abbie Stearman, Regional Rental Manager, to continue driving innovation, service and growth across the region.”

Boyd Company serves a broad range of industries, including construction, rental, mining, agriculture, industrial, electric power, marine, and oil & gas with a continued focus on delivering expertise, integrity and best-in-class equipment and support.
