Earn a Salary While You Study

The Apprentice Technician Co-op program at Boyd CAT is designed for students currently pursuing a degree in an approved post-secondary Diesel Technology program.

Students who participate in the program work part-time at a Boyd CAT location under the direct supervision of experienced technicians, performing tasks related to maintenance, repairs and rebuilding of Caterpillar and allied heavy machinery.

Careers for Co-op Grads

Upon graduation from their post-secondary program, a student enrolled in Boyd CAT’s Apprentice Technician Co-op program transitions into a full-time Technician position.

Full-time Boyd employees undergo in-house training to advance to Shop Technician and Shop Technician I. With dedication, that can progress to becoming a Field Technician.

The Boyd

Louis A. Neichter served as President of Whayne from 1974 to 1984.   The Boyd Caterpillar Scholarship Program is in his honor because during this sixty-year employment at Whayne, Mr. Neichter served in many capacities including heavy equipment mechanic and field technician – moving through the ranks to become president of one of the nation’s largest and most successful Caterpillar dealerships.

Co-op Requirements

Successful Apprentice Technician Co-op participants must:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be able to to read and comprehend repair manuals
  • Understand how to use a micrometer and other basic measuring tools
